Malin Balasooriya

CEO & Founding Partner

Throughout his career in insurance, Malin has prioritized delivering exceptional service and a solution-oriented underwriting philosophy and looks to embody those same priorities within the entire team at Cobalt Specialty. His insurance experience comes from a combination of domestic and international carriers, across multiple product lines where he demonstrated a proven track record of profitable growth. He is committed to using this experience to deliver meaningful solutions to the Natural Resource segment in Canada as well as other underserved industries. Malin has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Economics from the University of Toronto as well as CIP, FCIP and CRM designations. During his free time, Malin enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and a refreshing beverage with friends.

Mason Nowak

President

Mason Nowak is President at Cobalt Speciality. Prior to joining Cobalt, he worked at Kewa Financial as Vice President, then RBC Capital Markets in Global Investment Banking where he specialized in investment grade and high yield corporate bond offerings for oil & gas clients. Previously, Mason was an Associate in HSBC’s Debt Capital Markets team in Toronto, with earlier experience as an underwriter in RBC’s Canadian CMBS group. Mason graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Economics and holds a CIM® designation.

Matthew Lampard

Analyst

Matt Lampard is an Analyst at Cobalt Speciality, working closely with the Mining and Energy teams. Matt has a B.E.Sc in Software Engineering from Western University.
